Personally I prefer buying original DVD's , cause of the printed booklets and inlays. I do find it usefull to make a backup from my DVD's, and use the copied ones for dailly use. So I tried DVDBackup on 6 DVD's. 5 ripped fine, but one...
Maybe it has a new kind of copy protection, the DVD is called "Gothika". (a "must have" DVD, this one is on my buying list!) But while not yet available, I rented that DVD first, and while "Copy - Protected" was printed on the DVD, I was curious if DVDBackup could rip it. No change... I then also downloaded and tried MacTheRipper, didn't work either...
Even copying using the finder reported errors on certain files. So I believe they integrate some "bad data blocks" into certain files and then use the "jump to" command. Any usual ripping app tries to unkey the whole file and so it keeps hanging on the bad blocks.
The film industries are now one step ahead. Question is, how long will it take before a way around is found?
