Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Have Not Tried

Recommend Product: NO

Why be held hostage when the Mac OS X community has created a FREE wireless driver supporting damned-near every make and model of wireless card? Works smashingly with 10.3.5 as well.

13 outstanding bugs that aren't assigned to anyone to check them out, and the date of the latest version is 1 April, 2002. This project seems to be DEAD in terms of bringing it out of beta status. Use at your own risk!! This demonstrates too well one of the flaws in the open source approach - it depends totally on there being sufficient people able to give their time to a project to bring it to a proper releases version. Too often projects just linger in a never-ending cycle of beta releases that no-one in their right minds would use in a system if they depend on it working reliably.

Sorry, Nick, but the driver works flawlessly in many different flavours of OS X, including 10.3.4 and 10.3.5. If it works, it works. Absolutely no issues. no problems. It's just that simple.

No, it does have problems. When first activating my Orinoco card after being on a wired network, I have to put my PowerBook asleep and wake it -- sometimes several times -- before the whole things works. That, to me, is pretty bad.

On the other hand, I don't agree with the point that the abandonment of the O.S. wireless driver project demonstrates why O.S. is such a risky proposition... I have many products, both hardware and software, that have been abandoned by the companies that sold them to me.

Hey, Richard: Sounds like the problem is between the keyboard and the chair.

No offence, but we have this on several PowerBooks with the O-card, specifically, and 10.3.5 (was 10.3.4)...no problems whatsoever.

Maybe you need a little "maintenance"? I suggest "MacJanitor" and "OnyX" for that.

I'm glad you've had no problems. I guess that includes the reproducable kernel panics either. Very good.

Others have not been so fortunate and the problems that you have not personally experienced are well documented by others.

Like I said, take it for what it is, enjoy it, and don't be totally surprised if you encounter problems.

I suggest, then, that they too repair the space between the keyboard and the chair.

repair the space between the keyboard and the chair? Are you 12?

I've been working on Macs for almost a decade [and I'm good] and I haven't got the driver to work yet.. nor have I gotten the IOXperts driver to work.
This isn't a polished driver, the developers web site was last updated 3/9/2003
as far as I can tell. It doesn't always work. Just because you've gotten lucky doesn't mean that every other person who has problems is retarded.

Thanks for all the smug BS, it's added a lot to the conversation you twit.
