Blue screen after install

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

I installed 10.3.5 by s/w udate. After install, my Mac failed to boot - blue screen.
I have more than one boot disk. One was successfully updated to 10.3.5 a while back and works fine. My main boot disk exhibits this peculiar blue screen - loginwindow keeps crashing and writing a report to crashreporter. I did a test by restoring from backup to a system prior to 10.3.5 install - worked fine. Applied upodate - blue screen back! Even "safe boot" does not work.

My conclusion is that the installer is hosing some file somewhere that causes loginwindow to crash. Something in my existing system setup causes this. Obviously NOT h/w related, since my second boot disk works great with 10.3.5.

Sticking with 10.3.4 until I can spend a day troubleshooting with fs_usage.

I have seen this problem reported all over for the last couple years. An update hoses the system. Nice, Apple. Hey Steve, can I borrow your helicopter? I'll upgrade it for you.

Blue screen after install - bodhi rayo

add me to the growing list of people who can't seem to get the 10.3.5 update installed and running. my latest attempt ended with the installer hanging for 30 minutes. of course when i restarted, my iBook froze. oh well, back to the panther install disks. will try once more following the "repair permissions before and after" rule. what's up with that any way? why should i be responsible for fixing something the OS or the installer broke, huh? i think the Apple Installer Programming Team needs an overhaul, or at least have their permissions repaired...

btw - jd, loved your comment about steve's helicopter. after all this frustration i needed a good laugh. can i help with that upgrade?

Blue screen after install - MikeWelsh

Even though I have had (knock on wood) no problems with Apple upgrades, the line about Steve's helicopter is hilarious!
