I downloaded Data Backup X to test it out and was encouraged by the pretty nice interface and nice feature set even if it seemed slow in comparison to Carbon Copy Cloner, but in my first test backup, using compression, when I tried to restore an application from the backup, it produced a non-functioning generic application icon. Not exactly promising.... I notice that instead of compressing the entire application as one thing, it strangely compresses the individual files within the application package hierarchy, and no doubt this is the source of the problem. If it would work this program would be fantastic given the feature set. Right now, it doesn't. Also it is missing the ability to do real backups to CD or DVD (saying it can do that, but relying on Finder burning, which among other shortcomings means it can't span multiple discs, is pretty lame IMHO.)

A followup to myself. I also found that the non-function application that it restored did not have the same ownership/group/privileges as the original - when I tried to delete it the Finder required me to authenticate.Reply to This
