Sorry to keep bringing this up but does anyone know how to get rid of Onyx altogether. I erased all instances of files with onyx in the name but the preference to see the desktop in Expose still acts as if Onyx is installed.

That's because utilities like Onix, TinkerTool and Cocktail simply modify the system preferences : they do not install extensions or system-modifying software of any sort. To return to the pre-Onix state you either have to re-download Onix and reset the preferences to the factory defaults or, alternatively, you can trash the pref file where the setting is stored.
