This is a rather ironic piece of software. An application, released as shareware, with the ability to "crack" the protected works of others.

Understandably, there are occasions where this software will have legitimate uses, such as recovering ones' own work from a mistakenly protected file. However, when such a program arises with the ability to facilitate Flash piracy, it has to raise quite a few flags to the Flash developers out there.

Fortunately, this software is not entirely unbeatable. If there are any Flash developers who wish to protect their works from this kind of thing, you may want to look into a process called "code obfuscation". This will render your code almost completely unreadable to softtware like this, yet does not affect the performance of your Flash applications. (The windows section of VersionTracker should have some apps listed that will do this automatically.)

Questionable Ethics - NCG_Mike

If Flash files can be de-compiled and it's a problem for you, choose something else. Code obfuscation is a total waste of time - I know as I worked on SafeCast for the Mac.

I have seen you make this comment before... every time this software is updated). Chill out man, seriously... chill. I use this often to see how other "did things" etc... sometimes (three occasions) I had to do it to a few of my own pieces that are a bit old and I tossed source files long ago.

I remember hearing this old curmudgeon making the same comments about VCRs when they came out... funny eh?

ps.. code obstification is a red herring... if the flash player can decode it, so can a decompiler... I tested such a product a month ago and found two of the five swf decompilers were able to correctly read the action script.... so don't bother wasting your $ on them.

Peace!
:)
