How to get Bulldog working in Mac OS X 10.3.4

Feedback Type:  Troubleshooting Report

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Here is the bug I filed with Belkin Tech Support today:

Symptom: Bulldog software fails to connect to UPS device if launched by user, Bulldog software *will* connect to UPS device if automatically launched by UPS device attachment.

Cause: Bulldog software cannot communicate to daemon processes (upsd and ioupsd) unless launched as user 'root'. User launch of Bulldog causes Bulldog to belong to user not 'root'. Device attach will launch Bulldog under 'root' like upsd and ioupsd.

Workaround: Do not launch Bulldog from Finder. Detach and attach UPS device to launch Bulldog. Kinda like using a hand-crank to start your Mac! Doesn't seem like a real solution to me but may be acceptable to Belkin.

System Info:Belkin Universal UPS 800VA Using Bulldog 3.0.3 (file BULLDOG-MAC OS 10.3.TAR) downloaded from Belkin website Macintosh OS X 10.3.4 Macintosh Cube 1.5Gb RAM 120Gb HD

BTW. This is Bulldog 3.0.3 from the Belkin website. I have not run it long enough to tell if this version has a memory leak.
