...true, but font tools to create and modify fonts are used by developers. If you're a designer, there's no need to go mucking around with these tools modifying your fonts. You know from being a designer that modifying a font can have unexpected results when your design is presented on a different machine.
It's a developer's tool; that's why it's hosted on Apple's developer site.

...if you think apple font tools can wreck havoc on jobs that get transferred from machine to machine, imagine the loads of fun you can have with fonts that are "fixed" with font doctor. yay..."fix" your fonts and get read for all hell to break loose when it's time to transfer your documents/fonts to another mac user (vendor, collegue, etc.).poolmouse
