FileBuddy - Groucho6

You should never erase empty space while continuing to work on your computer because you're overwriting your empty space with zeroes in the process. If you have other apps running and trying to write to disk, or running out of VM swap space, you can end up in trouble. Next time be sure you quit all your applications before running erase unused space. And don't forget to send Skytag a bug report!

FileBuddy - Laurence Harris

The potential for experiencing a serious problem while erasing unused space is new in Mac OS X due to its heavy reliance on virtual memory and the fact that its memory management system was not written to robustly handle situations where there is insufficient disk space. This will be the case when erasing unused space with File Buddy, but it can also occur as a result of other actions as well if there is insufficient space on the volume where the virtual memory swap file is located. We apologize for any problems this may have caused anyone, but at the same time, we wonder why no one has ever reported a problem. One would think that "losing everything" would warrant at least an e-mail reporting the problem.
