CD Takes 15 Minutes to Boot

Product Platform: MacOSX
Used Product For: Less than a month
Having read all the problems with installing Techtool, I purchased it thinking I could simply boot from the CD to run diagnostics. Both experience and tech support confirm that it takes about 15 minutes to boot the CD. If you have any external peripherals, make sure to disconnect them. It may be a great product, but this is ridiculous.

Actually, I do have an idea of typical CD boot times and requirements. That's why Techtool's excessive boot time is ridiculous. I've never had DiskWarrior or the OS X install CD's take more than 5 minutes. Thanks for being so pleasant with your feedback.Friday, July 09 2004 @ 11:04 AM PDT

You might try making a copy of the CD using a reputable CD manufacturer (such as Maxell, for example) and working from that CD. I had the same problem with DiskWarrior and fixed it with an exact copy created with Toast. It brought the boot times into a more 'reasonable' time frame, although still not fast.Friday, July 16 2004 @ 09:04 PM PDT

I've tried booting from CD on my PB 12" 1.3GHz. It has been taking over 30 mins - and I've decided to give up.Maybe I should leave it overnight to bootup?

You have no idea what the system has to do to boot from read only media, mount drives, and have a working diagnostic system do you?I've seen tech tool take from 2-15 minutes to boot, and I've seen diskwarrior take up to 12 minutes. I've seen custom made boot CDs take over an hour.
