The latest updates to QuickTime (and it might also be to do with iTunes) have rendered QTConvert and any other applications relying on the QuickTime libraries to do conversions, incapable of converting protected m4p (Protected AAC) files to other formats. An update to iMovie was released that apparently circumvents this issue. Perhaps that means there is still a hook in the QuickTime API to do the conversion, but it probably means the codec is now embedded directly in the iMovie software.
I will poke around a bit to see if I can revive QTConvert, but I can't guarantee anything.
