Existing users, 
Defacto standard for how a chat cilent should be. Chat can often be obtrusive on productive computer use but I still want to be available; Adium lets me customize notifications and information display to minimize interruption.
They just need to polish off Direct Connect and File Transfer and I won't ever need to launch another client
