This is a neat idea, yet could be improved by enabling connections to be made to other than outboard midi devices. The designers could also extend the idea of choosing acceptable notes on a basis of scales and keys, rather than only by key. see: http://www.lucytune.com/new_to_lt/pitch_05.html for comprehensive system for coding scales and keys.

Neat idea yet could go further - birdFEEDER

Thanks for the comments, I'm the (sole) developer. As far as i know, you should be able to send the MIDI to any soft synth (or sequencer) that accepts MIDI. In my testing, I was using 'MIDIKeys" (freeware app) and sending to "MIDI Monitor" (another freeware app). It uses CoreMIDI all the way, so if the app creates a virtual MIDI input, then AIK it should appear as a valid OUT in AIK.

I'll take a gander at those modes you referenced, it would be quite easy to add more keys (or modes) as behind the scenes, I'm just rendering the scales in terms of "WWHWWWH". The modes at lucytunes seem to be easily definable in the same "circular" manner. My knowledge of musical theory is rather limited, however, those modes seem pretty easily understandable.

The scalecoding goes a long way beyond the seven "white note" modes, and covers the even the most exotic "ethinic" modes, scales etc.
see: http://www.lucytune.com/new_to_lt/lucytuning_scales.html for more examples.

I'll try getting it to feed into Logic Audio from an outboard keyboard.

If all else fails, (and you are using Panther) enable the AIC bus within the AudioMIDI Setup and send the output from Always In Key to the AIC bus, then within Logic, set the INPUT to this same AIC bus. :)
