Hi pdot,
Sorry to hear you found fleet management overly complex. There are some fleet management tools in the game that you may have missed. You can create rendezvous points on the starmap. If you tell your planets to send the ships they build to one of the rendezvous points, they will form into a fleet on arrival. This takes a lot of the tendum out of building fleets. The complete documentation is available online at: www.annodominari.com.
As for lack of graphic detail, zooming in and out with the + and - keys can help that a lot. It's hard to strike a balance between making something that useful for a wide overview map and still works to make individual units visible. I'd be happy to hear suggestions on how to improve it.
And yes, the multiplayer is where this game really shines.

Thanks for the feedback. I did use the options you mentioned when I was trying out the game back in April. I think the main difference between Pax Imperia and this game is that in Pax, I built fewer more powerful ships but in this game, I just let the ships advance in tech and get built automatically, and soon, I have dozens of ships. I'm big on micro-management but with so many ships, I started to just send them out to kill or get killed. As for suggestions, since it's been so long since I played this game, I don't remember if the player gets to design his own ships or not. Being an engineer, I loved putting in a bunch of shields and balancing that with armor and power production. That's what I loved about Pax Imperia the most.
