This is a clarification of Goobs comment about Live and MIDI. Live does use MIDI but almost exclusively to automate the Mixer and Effects. In truth there is one very specific case where you can use Live to trigger a sample using a MIDI keyboard, but it's no substitute for even the most rudimentary software sampler. Reason, on the other hand, uses MIDI not only for automation but also to trigger sounds in the synths, sampler and drum machines. Live uses MIDI, but not to create sound - djmaxwellhouse

You might be an idiot. Check the latest version. Live lets you record and play midi loops that can control either internal synths or hardware synths. It has piano roll editing as well as support for envelopes and control change automation. It's very powerfull for midi and audio.
