I was having trouble downloading for a while. I finally figured out, that my computer was blocking ftp access. So I went to System Preferences -> selected the "Sharing" pane -> activated "FTP Access" in "Services." Viola! Hope this helps people.

Fixed Downloading Problems - phantasm

Uh, you just turned on your FTP server and the SIDE EFFECT was that Mac OS told your firewall to allow in/out FTP traffic. You should have just opened the FTP port on your firewall under the Firewall tab.
