I've been reading all the complaints (okay, two of them) about this codec and its weekly updates. I don't often see people complaining about Firefox and its nightly builds and the weekly updates to sheer are, as I understand, the same thing.
It's fast, the video quality is perfect. I couldn't recommend it more.

I don't think anyone compains about Nightly builds of FireFox, because it is a completely different thing. FireFox (Mozilla for that matter) is an OPEN SOURCE project. It's freeware for all practical purposes. Nightly builds are expected with the Mozilla projects as they want to make rapid progress in taking the lead in web development again (Mozilla is really a front for Netscape). As with any open source project, it tends to be a perpetual work in progress with a few official releases at major points in the branching process.Sheer Video isn't freeware. It isn't open source. It's proprietary. It's commercial. It carries a $150 price tag.
If that doesn't demonstrate the difference enough, try this more problematic issue. FireFox is a web browser. It's not critical for anyone's use. If a nightly build doesn't work, you can always go back to the previous version, wait until the next day's build, or run Safari or IE instead. Nightly builds and the associated bug reports are part of their development and debugging process. Version problems are much more serious with a video codec. If you're in the middle of shooting a project and decided the previous day to upgrade your video codec without knowing that a change in it made key changes that could screw up the use of video you shot the day before or today because of a versioning conflict, you could end up being screwed and having to reshoot your video if you lost the source material. Therefore, it's nothing like nightly builds of FireFox what so ever. FireFox isn't gonna impact someone's production time frames. Sheer Video version conflicts could.. One is a headache, the other is the pocket book. That's where I'm coming from. That's where my concern lies.
