I've used this startup item ever since it was introduced. But then I upgraded from Starpower's 3 megabit cable modem internet to its 5 mebabit service. I found my connection on my iBook G4 933mhz not realizing the speed gain (as tested at various sites, i.e, Toast.net, PCPitStop, BandwidthPlace, Computers4sure, DSLReports, etc.). No test site tested faster than 3.2 mbit, often much lower (down to 2.3 mbit).
However, I found that other Macs on my intranet, which did NOT have this so-called "Broadband Optimizer" installed, actually tested much FASTER. Now that I've remove it from my iBook G4, it's blazing like the others, clocking 4.8 to 6.9 mbits (depending on the test site).
Can anybody explain?
