Actually, any client will be bad at downloading the files, since there's a lot of demand, and not as much supply. There's no way around that, until more people share their files, not necessarily the fault of the client. As far as I can tell this client is definitely the best written i've seen in terms of responsiveness. One clue was the speed of the prefs (in addition to fast results and generally responsive gui). Very fast and fluid. *BUT* the second time I ran it, it locked up the machine and the GUI something fierce. I haven't had to do a total reboot like that in quite a while. So it's not w/o risk.
