First of all, I agree with those who say the upgrade price is a bit steep. I didn't agree with their (Insider Software) cutoff for who gets it free and who has to pay. I missed the cutoff by about two months. Plus, they would not budge when it came to negotiating a deal to upgrade all five of my computers at work. That didn't go over too well.
BUT, this is the best font manager on the market. All this complaining about FontAgent Pro not working with Quark . . . no S$#T! Nothing seems to work with Quark these days. Quark sucks people! Get on with your creative lives. Quark is a terrible company, with a terrible product and THE WORST customer service of any company in the continental US. Their product is bogus and getting help from their "overseas" tech support is a joke. Great. We all know this. So why all the complaining still?? Just learn InDesign and be done with all this nonsense. It is the page-layout application of the future and the sooner people learn it the sooner Quark will become a distant memory.
FontAgent Pro should not be blamed for Quark's inadequacies. FAP is as stable a font manager as there is. It works fine in pretty much everything BUT Quark . . . hmm, now what does that say?
As far as some of the issues that people aren't happy with, I suggest a little more research. I believe someone said you can no longer manage system fonts with 2.0? Ahh, see, there's this thing that most programs have. It's called Preferences. It's where you tell FAP to manage system fonts. Try it out.
And regarding the need to re-import your font database being a big issue? Come on. Who's font database couldn't use an overhaul. I mean, just by USING fonts, they are liable to corrupt themselves. When you have a font library of over 5,000 fonts you are asking for trouble. I think it would do most people some good to get a fresh start.
My advice is to give this program some time. Get past the obvious points (ie: Quark is garbage) and dig in to the real capabilities of this app. I think most will agree that it's the best of it's kind.
