Hi,
I have just downloaded BookWorm and read the manual - which is unavailable while working on a(nother) project, since it uses the same project view window and BookWorm can have no more than one project view window open. How am I supposed to look up a feature while working on a project? By closing the project while I open the manual? Why isn't it available in the Help menu-bar item? Oh, sorry... un-Mac-like, there is no "Help" menu item in "BookWorm".
To my horror, clicking the red (close window) button on the project viewer/editor's window made the project window dutifully close --- and also turned all the menu commands inaccessible! I had to quit the program and relaunch it just so as to be able to open a project! This is about as illogical (no to say un-Mac-like) a behavior as is the fact that the "About BookWorm" window has no red (close window) button but is instead 3/4" larger so as to accommodate a "Close" button at the bottom!
Not to speak of the 1/2" wasted space at the top of the project view/edit window which contains the pop-up menu for chapters, a "Print" button, and the name of the program in huge letters (with the current date)!?! Sorry, but the "Print" button's functionality already is in the "File/..." menu where it had designed to be for two decades; the "chapters" pop-up menu belongs in the menu bar (where surprisingly it isn't); the date (and time) is in every Mac's menu bar, on the right, and the program name is on the left, right next to the Aqua apple logo.
The program types about 1.5 letters per second (I timed it!), on a 667MHz G4 PB with 1 Gb RAM, where even MS Word is limber. Well, for all of us who type with more than a single digit (both hands included), that is unacceptably SLOW.
However, the "no undo feature" takes the cake! Just curious: is that a general ideological-philosophical standpoint or just a personal idiosyncrasy?
Oh... and the author/programmer want 20 pounds sterling for ...this???
No, wait, it gets even better: the program just reported (while in the background as I write this, perhaps while attempting to auto-save?): "An out of bounds exception error occured[sic]. Please report this to me."
Sincerely, Tristan
P.S. Why isn't there a "0 stars" rating? This one wasn't earned.
