Crippleware nagware, suckware

Feedback Type:  Commentary

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Recommend Product: NO

This product continues to get worse as Bannister becomes increasingly money-oriented. His prices continue to rise, features continue to be removed/truncated, and he's even added harrassment. I don't have any problem with him wanting to be compensated for his efforts, but nag pop-ups and many missing necessary features constitute a "shareware preview" or something like that.

Bannister did not create RockNES. He ported it to the Mac. That takes effort, certainly. I applaud his work, but I completely disagree with his methods of earning compensation. Freeware is free. It's not about making money!

Crippleware nagware, suckware - Joel Schmidt

You are an idiot. RockNes has always been freeware.

Crippleware nagware, suckware -

Freeware does not have features disabled.

Besides, I agree that he should be able to make money from this -- it is his job.

RE:Crippleware nagware, suckware - _Em

RockNES is freeware with all functional parts present -- if you want to add on extra bits, you can also download Emulator Enhancer which is shareware (not nagware) which adds extra video modes, gamepad support, and other goodies to *all* of Bannister's freeware emulators. Where you start getting "crippleware" is when you try using pirated software codes with his Emulator Enhancer product -- and that's only on old versions, and only affects the enhancements, not the actual free emulators.
