Although it's ridiculously slow on an iBook 800, 640MB; It is practically unusable outside of its own dictation application. For microphone recognition problems, see

Works under Panther - Peeb
I disagree with the previous comment, in that I've found that ViaVoice works well in MS Word under Panther, as well. I've used ViaVoice with OS X since it became available. It was a powerful application under 10.2. I, too, thought the functionality had been totally lost, but I downloaded the latest (not terribly new) update and now get much more functionality. There are certainly problems, but there not as bad as they're made out to be here. My question is whether there ever will be an update for Panther--or do we wait indefinitely for an upgrade. Hmmm.I'm even more amazed at the problem with 10.2.6 and newer versions of OS X on the PowerBook G4, where the microphone is only recognized using the battery. If the power adapter is added, it disappears. There is no such problem on the PowerMac. I returned my PB G4 once and they returned it to me in the same condition. I'm going to try one more time. Updates prior to 10.2.6 worked fine. The problem has been reported elsewhere, but Apple isn't cooperating fully in its resolution.
