I love the new icon.

The new folder option is a great time-saver. Safari's cache, cookies, etc...could be easily shredded with this feature, same with other backup caching.

Speed improvements are noticeable.

Overall, the new version is consistent with the developmental pace of this security program.

BTW, while Panther's shredding capabilities are great (I'm told, since I'm still on 10.2.8), the pattern is fixed/set and the number of shreds is 7x or 8x (I think). So, there is still room for a higher level of security, imo.

It's been posted before. Here it is again. A page explaining shredding and the Gutmann Method. The link is also provided on SecretShredder's webpage.

Hey, I've got a question. Can SecretShredder be used from a CD (if the preferences were copied along with the program to a CD), so that if it accompanies a boot disk, it can do a complete shred of the entire hard drive? (I'm guessing that the preferences would be fixed/locked from the CD.)

This would be handy if one is getting rid of an old computer and wants to do a really super squeaky clean install of just the basic OS before discarding/selling the computer.

Hi there,

If one had a bootable CD you could indeed run SS from it and then shred the entire disk, there are a couple of ways to go about it: you could shred free space and hen shred files and folders by dragging the disk onto SS or you could erase all contents ( even format ) the disk and then run a free disk shred with the pattern you wish to use either way the disk would shred completely.

Sorry the dev pace has slowed up a little but much has been planned for SS I just don't have the time I used to for development at the moment..

Best,

Rick.
