Do I need to optimize?

You probably won't need to optimize at all if you use Mac OS X. Here's why:

.....Mac OS X 10.2 and later includes delayed allocation for Mac OS X Extended-formatted volumes. This allows a number of small allocations to be combined into a single large allocation in one area of the disk........Mac OS X 10.3 Panther can also automatically defragment such slow-growing files. This process is sometimes known as "Hot-File-Adaptive-Clustering."......

What Apple says about Panther, OS X, and defragmentation.... - Budpwr

I use Panther and my HD seems to still need Defragmentation. This is according to Norton Utilities.

Now If some would tell me of a good Utility that can replace Norton, I would be happy to check it out. Norton (Symantecs) seems to have stopped supporting Apple entirely. All they have is the same stuff from 2003.

By Utilities I mean the same as Norton but to include Anti-Virus, Defrag, Internet Security, Etc.
