Must update your 4000ED to firmware 1.10 first! If you don't, you will get crashes.
The firmware update made the scanner give Firewire chain data errors-(the scanner was after my Formac TV unit). I fixed that issue by removing the scanner from the chain and plugging it into a hub attached to the other port. After all this, 4.0.1 scanned well, but the program would not quit nor force quit! Going back to version 3.1.4 resolved this.(Mac OS 10.2.6).
