Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: One Day

I ripped a 3 hour movie. I expected it to take a long time, but it took 12 hours (iMac 1.25 GHZ, 10.2.8). I accepted that and patiently waited. The problem is that the format is AVI. After all that waiting, Quicktime wouldn't play it. I have that problem with certain AVI files, but this is a Mac program, so why is it AVI?

Hmmm... - Eric Petit

This isn't a Mac program ;p (well, not originally). Check the FAQ on handbrake.m0k.org about problems reading AVI files on OS X. Next release of HandBrake will feature .mp4 output, just stay tuned.

Don't use QuickTime for DivX movies - phantasm

Use VLC (VideoLan Client) www.videolan.org. That's what people use these days to play DivX movies.

Plays almost ALL known movie formats.

There has never been a decent AVI codec for Quicktime, just accept it.

VLC also has some other nice features.

Also... - phantasm

I have a Powerbook 1.25GHz. I can rip a movie at half speed (about 15fps); so a 2 hour movie takes about 4-5 hours. This is actually normal. I don't know why my Powerbook is doing it faster than your desktop unless you are doing lots of other things with the Mac in the meantime.
