Permissions Filter

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Have Not Tried

New feature text reads: "An option to modify the permission filter for the creation of new files and folders has been added for Panther. It is effective for all applications started from the graphical user interface."

I had hoped that this feature would allow me to specify that new files and folders in the Finder would have group read and write permissions. From what I can tell, having installed 3.1, this feature can be used only to *prevent* certain permissions from being set, -- i.e. not specifying a default permission level (which we really, *really* need to be able to do.)

Anyone know if I'm simply overlooking something in my understanding of how this new feature works? (I hope I'm mistaken!)
