I just wish there was a way to run VNC headless on OS X; that's the whole reason I want to run it, so i can admin a server without having to plug a monitor in.

An easier option than manually running OSXvnc from the command-line is to get "Share My Desktop". Run that and instead of using its main GUI-oriented VNC server, in the File menu there is an option to set up a "system VNC server" which sets up a background server that is available at startup.

You can get a pre-made dongle to fit on your monitor cable from Dr. Bott. such as gHead. However, you should check to make sure that your Mac/Monitor combination are supported.
