I have no problem with the idea of licensing per se (after al, .Mac does the same). What troubles me very much is that I've read the licence document carefully and nowhere does it specify the licensing period. From the Purchase page one gathers that it is supposed to be a year, but in his licence the vendor should contractually guarantee that. It is very disturbing that he does not. Also, we are given the option of purchaing a 3-year licence for more money, and this raises the question of what happens if the vendor happens to go out of business. When you buy software, it continues to function even if the vendor shuts up shop, presumably this would not be the case here. So what would otherwise be an interesting backup scheme seems like a very bad idea indeed. Until the vendor cleans up his act I won't consider trusting him with either my money or my data.
