For the Terminally challenged, or just for lazy folks like me Cocktail packs a lot into the GUI wrapper. Still, I dislike it when a developer makes a big deal about creating freeware, only later to quietly start charging for it. Good app.

I agree - Andreas..
Also, as I have said before, very many posts in this thread show that Cocktail was treated as freeware, with discreet requests for a donation completely disregarded. With little response what should the author have done? Would a nag screen have been well received?
For myself I am grateful that I have this very useful set of routines so easily available. Having in the past made a donation the 'switch' had no effect on me - I was sent a key for the new version at exactly the same time as it was released. Kristofer does not deserve the mud-slinging. Those who made no response to the requests for a donation should really keep quiet.

What? LOL - mondomac
You say, "Those who made no response to the requests for a donation should really keep quiet." Is this Nazi Germany? Sorry, but my four-star review is as valid as my opinion about the price. You can't have it both ways. And I did make a response to his donation request. I declined.Friday, October 31 2003 @ 05:28 PM PST
Plans - Jeff Mincey
I understand what you say, but maybe this wasn't part of some diabolical plan all along by the Cocktail developer but instead over time he simply had a change of heart on this. Changing one's mind is no crime -- and I'm sure you agree. Now if this were an orchestrated bait-and-switch campaign, to build the installed base of Cocktail and hook people and then later to "quietly start charging for it" as you say, THAT would be different -- legal, but not entirely above-board and straightforward with people. On the other hand, anyone who expects software to be (1) always available and (2) always free needs a healthy reality check anyway.
