I think this is a nifty idea. I can't help but smile. It's cleverly done and the type of programmer who would take the time to do something special like this for his wife (and then share the idea with anyone else for free) is just plain cool in my books.
It's just mildly confusing to set up, but I quickly figured it out. The stroke of genius, from a romantic guy's perspective, is the ability to run it hidden so the pop-up message occurs without her knowledge or looking at the Dock to see a heart icon. Something that would be nice is the ability to use more than one title and button string.
Will it replace other forms of love? Nope. But it's an extra "little" thing that you can do to show someone you are still crazy about him or her. Anyone who would go so far to say this is worthless is either single, has a lousy marriage, or thinks his marriage is going great but he's deceiving himself. Praising someone is the consummation of prizing someone. Good work and it's neat to see your delight in Karen spill over into praise like this. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
