Beige G3 tips?

Feedback Type:  Troubleshooting Report

Contributed by: bdmarsh Sunday, October 05 2003 @ 05:14 PM PDT

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: One Day

Tried using this to get some "listed as supported" Umax SCSI scanners working on a Beige G3 (Astra 610 and 2200), with no success.

I tested different terminators, different SCSI ID's, in both cases the Scanners worked perfectly on the same Beige G3 booted into 9.

If anyone has tips, I'd be glad to hear them!
System Info:Beige G3, 266 Mhz, 320 MB ram, 40 GB HD (partitioned so X would install)

Odd... my Astra 2200 has worked with VueScan and SCII for quite some time, with no need to do any tinkering. I don't use a terminator.

Good luck! Andy

bdmarsh, try using an active terminator with X. A passive one wasn’t working for me.

My problem with an ANCIENT UMAX-SE/* scanner was purely cabling. Make sure you get a SCSI-II or SCSI-III to SE (Single-End) cable or cable adapter instead of differentially driven SCSI. My SE scanner had fits until I discovered the differentially driven SCSI issue. (duh - SE)
