Delete the Word pref, called "com.microsoft.Word.plist". Log out, log in, and restart Word. That should get rid of the Spinning Ball of Death.

DCT, try this Word fix: - DCT

Thank you. Tried that. Didn't work. I uninstalled Microsoft Office using the supplied utility. Then reinstalled from the original CD. Applied each update one by one and wouuldn't you know it... I'm back in business.
