Severe problems found.

Feedback Type:  Review

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: One Day

Recommend Product: NO

I wrote a positive review earlier; I deleted it. The Flash Player works okay, but installing it caused

  1. my general preferences (highlight colour, graphite or blue theme, and so on) to be lost;
  2. my .Mac account to be made inactive (I had to reenter the info in the Internet pref pane)
  3. numerous permissions being mixed up (Disk Utility took a long time to repair them all and many were Flash related)

The Flash Player plugin itself works well, but I hope it didn't cause any other damage that I have yet to discover. Minus four stars for messing up settings the installer has no business tampering with in the first place.

These sound like symptoms of a full hard drive. Could that have been the problem?

My hard drive has 25 GB available.. so I think that doesn't explain it. The problems I described occurred immediately after installing the Flash Player. The Installer relaunched Safari and I noticed the window widgets had turned to red, yellow and green, whereas they are normally grey (`graphite'). Then I noticed my date and time settings had changed from 24-hour-mode to AM-PM-mode, and then I saw the rest of the anomalies. I'm quite convinced that this has to do with the Flash Player installer; I may be wrong, but then it would be an extraordinary coincidence.

Weird. Thanks for the info, Hiram. I'll make sure that I've got a fresh system backup before I install. The only time I've seen random preferences get hosed is when I maxed out my HD, so that's why I mentioned it. :(
