I guess I miss where anyone flamed the author. The app was justly criticized, April overreacted in reply, and someone addressed this. This is an appropriate place to note complaints (and praise), especially since it is clear the developer reads it. The reviews are perfectly reasonable. I didn't respond earlier because I thought it was obvious that April's response was out of proportion to my comments. That being said, this app is progressing. The interface is pretty good--nice and clean, though some OS X bells and whistles could be added (e.g., a toolbar including the most popular menu options). It no longer crashes on launch. It seems a good replacement for OS 9's NotePad. In order to compete with other similar programs, however, it should add the ability to format text and paste pictures and sounds. Nice progress, though.
