could it be that this software completly wrecks windows ipods. after having used this software on a friends windows ipod, several songs were gone.

This software does absolutly nothing to windows iPods. I find it very unfortunate that you would make such a claim. This is macintosh software and cannot be run on a Windows machine. If your iPod is not meant to attach to a macintosh then I would caution you against doing so.
