I'd like to know 1) if anyone is running VPC 6 on a G4 Powerbook 12" (or 15") 2) how well it runs 3) how 'intense' is you processor use. The main reason I am considering VPC is to run a (PC only) graphically simple but database complex program.

I have a 15" 800Mhz G4 and OS 10.2.6. I use VPC 6.0 with Windows XP so I can use a program for heart-rate monitoring (Freeze-Framer) which somewhat fits your description of 'graphically simple but database complex'. The application kept stalling. Using Process Viewer I initially thought VPC+XP+FreezeFramer were consuming 98-100% of the CPU cycles. Then I discovered a seperately installed (in Windows) USB/serial driver was consuming 50 to 60% to do COM1 emulation in VPC. When I reinstalled the driver in Windows as a USB controller the CPU consumption was reduced to 40-50%. So VPC and XP work fine for me so long as there is no COM1 emulation. (Note. Process Viewer cannot 'see' separately the % CPU cycles for Windows, the application and the dirver. It 'sees' only the sum and identifies it as VPC.)Reply to This
