With Safari and now the webcore based OmniWeb 4.5, OS X users have two very good browsers at their disposal. Both are fast, and both are standards based. OmniWeb works well with most of the sites I use, with the exception of failing on some JavaScripted pages. The only real downside of these browsers is that most sites that switch content based on browser header have no clue what to do with either Safari or OmniWeb. Some don't even give you the chance to find out if the browser will work, denighing you access because the site does not recognize the header information. Ironically, both browsers fail on our WebObjects based administrative applications--argh! Oh well. One of the best things about OmniWeb is that is case study in the way that Apple's core technologies can be used as the base for developers to make their own unique applications. Great job OmniGroup. Great job Apple.

If you turn on the debug menu in Safari you can "pose" as anothe browser (such as Mozilla) - this solves most of the problems associated with sites that rely on your browser identification for content.Reply to This
