AIM had group columns way before iChat, e-mail support, ticker/news support. Very easy to organize buddy list, and does not crap up your address book like linking iChat and Address Book does. This works, and iChat is just a blundering oversimplified joke.

E-mail support? I want an IM client, not an AOL "You've Got Mail!" alert.Ticker/news support? I want an IM client, not some corporate-created news "ticker".
Linking iChat and Address Book has never "crapped up" things for me. It's somewhat convenient to have all that info in one place and have it accessed by multiple programs.
Go back to your day job - which I'm assuming is working for AOL.
