This is a great program, but for some reason the developer thinks he has the right to take over your computer every time he issues an update. You can be in the middle of something else, and suddenly Watson takes over, makes itself the frontmost application, and tells you there's a minor update to one of the tools. It's Microsoft-like behavior and the developer needs to re-evaluate his attitude. It deserves 5 stars, but not when the developer abuses his users. I have expressed this to the developer but I received no response and the behavior hasn't changed.

Re: A user preference solves this - TangueroLS
Personally, I don't mind the updates. In fact, they help me make sure that Watson is always THE most up-to-date application on my Mac.Watson is a 10 in my book! I use it ALL the time. If I could do my Photoshop work in Watson, I'd do it! Not perfect (what is?) but nearly enough so that it makes using it a joy.
Watson! Come here. I need you.

Re: Arrogant Developer - TangueroLS
From MacCentral, 7/8/03:
"Once Panther is released, this point update will enable users to see which tool is currently selected in the toolbar. What's more, Panther compatibility isn't the only change in Watson 1.7.2. Other changes include an adjusted preference to prevent notification of tool updates; better NetBlockade detection; better support for Amazon Web Services; fixed eBay phone parsing; and much more."
Yeah. . . the developer is REAL arrogant. Jeez! Get a clue. And get a life.

Re: Arrogant Developer - Alien Hunter
If you're capable of doing a little bit of calculation, you'll note that my complaint was written in June (I wrote the developer about the problem back in May). This is now July and Karelia has given me an explanation and a solution. Given your limited brain power, you obviously concluded that I made the complaint after the problem was fixed. So thanks for highlighting the developer's response to my objection in this version.I think it was a response to my complaint.
I'm now 100% satisfied with Watson and the developer. You're the one who needs to get a clue. Jeez, you can't put two and two together.

A user preference solves this - karelia
This 'arrogant' behavior of popping to the front is because of a bug that we've been unable to solve. So our response has been to include a preference to turn off the updates completely. The new 1.7.2 update prevents not only the 'What's New' updates, but also the tool update alerts.Humbly yours,
the developers of watson
