Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: One Month

Recommend Product: YES

I have been using PsycncX for about 2-3 weeks now. Other members of my lab have been using it for several months. At this point no one reports any problems.

Prior to PsyncX I had used both Retrospect and SilverKeeper. So far I like PsyncX at least as well as those two. Most positive feature is that it actually creates a bootable disk. Second most positive feature is that it makes a copy of your files -- without compressing them. So you can look at them, open them, run them, and generally have confidence that the backup really did back up.

Most negative feature is that after you type in your password the thing goes away and begins work without any feedback to the user. You have to trust that the software is actually doing something. Second most negative feature is that there is no way to interpret the numerous messages that PsyncX generates. Most of them are clearly path names that describe the original directory path and the backup directory path. But there are other messages whose interpretation is less obvious.

So -- best piece of free or commercial backup software we have used -- and over the years we have used many.

Ease of use rating is 4 stars due to lack of feedback while backing up. There is no documentation or support (that I ahve found). But not much is needed. Features -- not sure what features (other than more interpretable feedback) would be desired. Quality/Stability is excellent. Price is right!
