I just recently changed my default browser to Safari, and noticed something classically Microsoft. Each time I launch Explorer, I get a prompt asking if I would like to reset IE as my default browser. I check the box that says, "Don't show me this again", and click no. The next time I launch Explorer, poof!!, there it is again!!!! No way to turn it off. Kind of reminds me of the bully tactics of AOHell.
