It's much safer (for your ears) to keep everything maxed so that, say, websites playing random noise can't blast your ears off. It's also a lot better if your computer's volume is capped, so that you get less noise after the amp. The next thing I need to do is find where to stuff a resistor in my amp. And, usually, 0 dB is the maximum and everything else is negative, but who knows?
