We have a HP 4C SCSI scanner from 1998 that cost a lot of money in its days and still works perfectly. But the original software doesn't recognize it in Classic, and neither Apple (which supplied the SCSI card with the G4 SilverLine), nor Adaptec (which produces it) would assume responsibility for the fact that it couldn't work in OSX. So there were two alternatives left: buy a new scanner, or try VueScan, which does the job perfectly! I just wish there was a double interface, though: one simple, easy-to-get-working, and another one for those who have the time to dwell into the finesses of the scanning arts (not me)
