gehulse, about backing up Preferences. There will always be problems, even using the Finder to copy a whole folder of preferences. I've tried to copy the System folder (just using the Finder to drag the System folder to another disk) and it sometimes fails, usually when copying a preference. I guess it's because the system writes to the preference files at unexprected moments.
