This tool is such a nice surprise from Apple!! The handwriting to text component is effective and I'm sure it will come in handy in ways I haven't even thought of. I've found that I don't have to be that precise with how I pen my letters, it just won't recognize scribbles or cursive. The COOLIEST ASPECT (as an artist) is the sketchpad component. Although it seems like a low tech program, there is something really sophisticated and beautiful about the brush stroke fade from black to grey to white according to the pressure of the pen on the tablet (verses usual thick to thin pressure fade.) The natural almost pencil-like fade of the brush allows for dimension to be added to sketches. The black/white spectrum is definately satisfying, but, it would be nice to have color options in the pressure gradient. The textured eraser is a little weird (erase by turning your pen over) --it uses a larger brush and a strange choppy texture. There is no changing the brush size, textures and you can't undo brush strokes (of course you can undo text placed into other apps); allowing "command z" would be a nice update to inkwell. I love how easy it is to "send" my sketches to emails I'm writing. Once the cursor is placed where I want in the body of the email, I press "send" and my ink sketch appears in the email. The only thing is that it places it in tiff format, which means its bulky and not all email applications can read it, it would have to be viewed in a separate application. It would be nice if it was a smart enough application to automatically convert to jpeg when you send it to the mail application. Furthermore, I'm noticing tonight that if I draw something big, and then collapse the window and reopen it later, the application hangs a minute with the spinning disk thing. But, for what it is, "a quick sketch application," it is great, hence the 5 stars. Thanks Apple!!
