I feel sorry for the author of this software. It is a neat idea, and they produce other good shareware and freeware I've used for quite some time. But this is such a huge and universally experienced problem that I can't believe it wouldn't have shown up in beta testing on his own computer, and thus, the question remains: why the hell did he let this off into the wild with such presumably poor precautions? One-star rating for that. I suppose we'll have to wait to hear his side once his website comes back up for air. This is an absolutely huge public relations nightmare for IttPoI; for those who don't realize the fix is a simple deletion of ~/Library/Application Enhancers/Skin a Dock.ape, people are going to go right up to reinstalling the OS and all the presumable data loss that might entail. This debacle is a rival to the great debacle Apple had with its iTunes installer a few versions back. My advice to the author? Obviously, take the software offline. Then, post an extremely clear analysis as to why the software did what it did, and also clearly stating how to uninstall every trace of it from the system. Then, make the software disappear from the Mac world for a while. Zap this VT listing, remove every mention of it from your website. In the meantime, fix it and give it an absolutely cruel and rigorous workout with a group of handselected alpha and beta testers to make sure your release is as solid as a rock. Then, when three or four months have passed, try releasing it again, while acknowledging the prior goof-up and assuring people that this new release is much more solid. How a company handles a public relations crisis like this can make or break its reputation. I hope IttPoI handles this one well, and with class.

WCityMike You da man!!!! - its an addams

I was feeling kind of sorry for me too, but because I've used other products like this, I didn't think anything of using it, until it ate my desktop. However, by following your directions, my system is up and you prevented me from rebuilding the laptop.

Thanks you times ten.
