drH - if you can stand the (horrible) interface the "Linux program" GIMP is often said to be comparable to photoshop 3. It certainly does a lot more than GC, but a lot less than modern Photoshop. Of course, installing and running it can be a pain if you haven't already got X11 and fink setup. Depends what you're into...
