Actually, the poor gif export quality seems to be fixed if you go to this menu: Picture->Colors->Minimize Color Table I'm not quite sure what sort of weird bug causes the palettes to screw up when saving as a gif... they get all holey and speckled with colors that aren't anywhere near the right color.
